Vision
To promote and safeguard the dignity, rights and well being of any person involved in scientific studies or teaching activities at the faculty of Pharmacy and Biotechnology by providing ethical guidelines, education in ethical principles, and the necessary resources to monitor and implement ethical decisions.
To promote and safeguard the well-being of any animal used in research or teaching activities at the German University in Cairo, by providing adequate housing and care and ensuring that animals are not exposed to unncessary suffering.
To ensure infectious or potentially infectious material is handled with necessary care and safety precautions to ensure that no emplyoee of the German University in Cairo is coming to harm through any of these materials.
Mission
The Ethics Committee includes relevant scientific expertise, as well as, persons representing the concerns of the wider community to address the ethiocal conerns associated with research and teaching at the German University in Cairo. The committee provides appropriate guidelines based on established ethical principles, in accordance with relevant international guidelines and principles, and representing the values of the community that the German University in Cairo is serving.
Objectives
- Formulate and publish Ethical Guidelines for the German University in Cairo.
- Ensure these guidelines are understood and accepted by staff and stakeholders.
- Offer consultation and assistance on urgent ethical problems.
- Review and approve ethical decisions.
- Ethical review of research protocols and the conduct of research at the German University in Cairo
- Oversee all activities that involve live animals
- Oversee all activities that include human participants
- Ensure that all experiments carried out at the GUC conform to ethics guidelines
- Oversee conditions and regulations for animal care at the GUC
- Ensure that informed consent from these participants was obtained and that personal data are adequately protected
- Supervise use and handling of potentially infective materials, including medical samples and materials obtained from clinical studies and trials involving human participation.
