Biography

Professor El-Azizi earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University in 1987 with general grade “Excellent with Honor”. He earned his Master in Microbiology and Immunology from the same Faculty in 1995. He also earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Cairo University and the Division of Infectious Diseases, Southern Illinois University, School of Medicine, USA, in 2000. Professor El-Azizi was appointed as a demonstrator in the department of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University from 1988 to 1995, then as teaching assistant in the same department from 1995 to 1997. He worked as research instructor in the division of infectious diseases, School of Medicine, Southern Illinois University, USA from 1997 to 2000. He was appointed as assistant professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University from 2000 to 2002. He worked as associate professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, School of Medicine, Southern Illinois University, USA from 2002 to 2006. Professor El-Azizi has joined the GUC in 2006 as associate professor then as a professor of Microbiology and Immunology. He was appointed as the Vice Dean for Students Affairs from 2011 to 2019, the Vice Dean for the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific research from 2014 to 2019. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biotechnology and member of the GUC Vice Presidency for Quality.

Research Interests

The major area of his research is medical microbiology, immunology, and infectious diseases including, microbial adherence, biofilms and device related infections, as well as resistance of bacteria and fungi to antimicrobial agents and exploring non-conventional therapy such as nano size antimicrobial agents and immunotherapeutic agents to treat infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria. The main goal of the research activity is to come up with real products that can be implemented in the clinical settings to treat infections especially those that are caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria.Professor El-Azizi has 80 publications in peered-review journals and national and international conferences.

Biography

Dr. Mohammad Abdel-Halim is a lecturer of pharmaceutical chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, graduated from Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University in 2001 (excellent with honor). He joined the GUC since 2005 as a teaching assistant then he was promoted to assistant lecturer after getting his Master’s degree from the Faculty of postgraduate studies-GUC in 2009. He earned his doctoral degree in medicinal chemistry from Saarland University in 2013.

Biography

Rasha Hanafi is Professor of Pharmaceutical Analysis and Vice Dean of Student Affairs at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biotechnology of the German University in Cairo.

She is an Alexander von Humboldt alumna, DAAD alumna and Research Affiliate at the Eberhard-Karls-University Tübingen, Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences Pharmaceutical (Bio-) Analysis as well as a member of the Research Alumni Network of the University of Tübingen.

She is a highly experienced and dedicated teacher and supervised more than 40 masters and PhD theses of national and international students. She published ca. 50 articles in peer reviewed international journals and 30 conference abstracts (posters and oral presentations). In addition, she is reviewer and editor of international peer reviewed journals and, moreover, reviewer of national grants.

Her main research field is Pharmaceutical and Bio-Analysis including Metabolomics and Quality by Design in analytical methods with focus on the incorporation of suitable computational concepts, in order to reduce the number of experiments and, hence, the consumption of chemicals.

Her research includes activities related to DoE in chiral separations (including in vitro- and in-vivo-decomposition products, in-vivo kinetic studies, discovery of novel human biomarkers and novel compounds of phytochemical origin and with promising pharmacological actions.

She serves as scientific consultant and free-lance trainer for pharmaceutical/chemical companies and in academia in the field of rational Design-of-Experiments-guided analytical method development with focus on the various aspects of sustainability in chromatography, on Quality Control and Assurance.

Her research collaborations in Germany include groups from the University of Tübingen, the Freie University of Berlin, the University of Braunschweig, and the University of Mainz.

Biography

Dr. Gad is a professor of Biochemistry and former dean of Faculty of Pharmacy & Biotechnology at the German University in Cairo (GUC), graduated 1st of 500 from Pharmacy, Cairo University, M.Sc. Biochemistry, Cairo University, completed Ph.D. at age of 30 from Medical College of Pennsylvania, USA, worked as Prof./Head of Biochemistry department at Cairo, GUC, October 6, Ain Shams and Helwan Universities since 2002, acted as Vice-Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at Ain Shams University and for Academic Affairs at GUC, chief coordinator of TEMPUS Curriculum development project in Pharmacy (5 European and 3 Egyptian Universities), received fellowship from American Heart Association and National Promotional Prize in Biomedical Sciences (2002), received 2 STDF grants from National Academy of Science, board member of the Egyptian National Committee of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and of the National Committee for Promotion to Professors and Associate Professors in the field of Biochemistry, member of the Higher Election Committee of Egyptian Syndicate of Pharmacy, member in several scientific societies, reviewer to several scientific journals, has 74 international publications and 93 conference abstracts, published selected articles in “Biology of Nitric Oxide” book, Portland Press, 2000 and in the book: Biomarkers in Cardiovascular Disease, Edition: 2016, Publisher: Springer Netherlands, Editors: Vinood B.
