Awareness Forum: EL Sokar Barra

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Biotechnology hosted the annual forum of “EL Sokar Barra” on 14 November in collaboration with the Foundation of Sustainable Development Volunteer Work Ambassadors and under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Solidarity. The forum focused on raising awareness about the dangers of diabetes, discussing its causes, prevention methods, and reviewing the latest research on treatment approaches.

The GUC president, Prof. Dr. Yasser Hegazy welcomed attendees of the forum that coincides with the World Diabetes Day commemorating the discovery of insulin. He praised the selection of the GUC as a research-based university to host the event in view of the importance of pharmaceutical scientific research to fight diseases including diabetes. He highlighted the integration between the academics, students, initiative leaders and participants in delivering this message effectively. The dean of the faculty, Professor Dr. Mohamed El-Azizi emphasized the importance of all presidential awareness initiatives to promote health of Egyptian citizens including the campaign to eliminate Hepatitis C, the 100-day health campaign, and the current Diabetes campaign all of which have had positive and effective outcomes. The forum saw the participation of physicians, clinicians, pharmacists, teaching staff, and experts from pharmaceutical and medical companies, and public figures. 

A panel discussion took place featuring esteemed professors in the faculty of Pharmacy GUC, namely Prof. Ashraf Abadi, Prof. Mohamed Zakaria Gad, Prof. Hans Breitinger, Assoc. Prof. Ingy Hashad and Assoc. Professor Hend El-Tayebi. They provided in-depth insights into disease etiology, latest advancements in treatment drugs compared to their predecessors, as well as discussing the management of these drugs in treating diabetes and related conditions such as heart failure, high blood pressure, and weight control.
