The department of Pharmaceutical Biology of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biotechnology hosted a practical 2-days workshop in July 2023 for undergraduate Pharmacy students entitled “Can Chia Seeds Protect from Alzheimer?” organized by Dr. Sara Thabit and Assoc. Prof. Heba Handoussa with the remarkable participation of  Professor Dr. Bernd Hitzmann: Chair of Process Analysis and Grain Science at the Institute of Food Science and Biotechnology at the University of Hohenheim, Germany.  In the workshop, students subcultured c. elegans as an animal model, extracted chia seeds and tested their potential anti-Alzheimer’s effect as a trendy nutraceutical. In addition, they listened to a lecture by Prof. Hitzmann about chia seeds modern analytical methods.
