On Campus - GUC

The German University in Cairo organized a series of awareness lectures about COVID-19 to all academic staff, students, and administrative personnel In March 2020. The lectures of the seminar were delivered by Prof. Mohamed El-Azizi, dean of the faculty of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, Professor of Microbiology, and Immunology and by Dr. Ossama Aboulmagd, head of the medical administration of the GUC. The lectures raised awareness about the nature of COVID-19 virus and how it attacks the respiratory track via breath, saliva and infected surfaces. The symptoms were clarified to the audience including coughing, sneezing, and throat inflammation. Those symptoms can later aggravate to fever and acute cough, in addition to difficulty in breathing and acute pulmonary inflammation. Diagnosis depends on laboratory tests followed by the obligation to isolate the patient.

Prof. El-Azizi and Dr. Aboulmagd guided the audience on necessary prophylactic measures and beneficial habits such as regular hand washing for at least 20 seconds, staying home when any of the above-mentioned symptoms arise, and of extreme importance to keep the nose and mouth masked and maintain a healthy diet.
